John 10:1-10 4th Sunday of Easter

I hear the cry from all sides
               come follow
See how I have put together the facts
Hear the story I have woven
               airtight
that sounds by all reason
               like truth
I yearn to follow
               but where
I hear the cry from within
               (I have come)
and know that voice
               I see not
               I hear not
the seamless reason
of carefully crafted facts
I know only the one who was
on the cross
               (that you might have life)
Who tasted death
               And life
               Before me
Who has risen
               To bring life to me
               Peace to me
Hope to me
that I may now shout for Joy
and Live
               (life in its fullness)
Life

Psalm 23

Worship Leader: There are times when we need some guidance in our lives.  Without the voice of God, we can easily become lost.

Congregation: The LORD is our shepherd, we shall not be in want for the Lord makes us lie down in green pastures, and leads me beside quiet waters. The Lord restores my soul and guides me in paths of righteousness for his name's sake.

Worship Leader: Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for the Lord is with me; The Lord’s guidance comforts me.

Congregation: For the Lord prepares a table before us in the presence of those who would harm us. The Lord provides us with all we need and our cup of blessing overflows.

Worship Leader: Surely goodness and love will follow us all the days of my lives,

Congregation: And we will dwell in the house of the LORD forever.

Luke 24:13-25 On the road to Emmaus

I don’t know if it’s true
I have my doubts like everyone else
I’m a pilgrim
a stranger
searching for that
for which my soul yearns
and when I hear the Word
and sing the songs
something happens within me
and I begin to feel at peace
there are times the words seem written
for me
and when I hear them
my heart burns with a peace
and love
               and discomfort
I can’t explain
but it is in the coming forward
and taking that piece of bread
               that cup of wine
and hearing the words
               This is my body
               This is my blood
               Given for you for forgiveness
               For life
that my heart leaps
and I know Christ

Psalm 116

Worship Leader:  I love the Lord because the Lord hears my voice, my cry’s, my prayers for mercy and bends down to listen. I will therefore pray as long as I have breath!

Congregation: Death wrapped its ropes around me and the terrors of the death overtook me. In the midst of this mess I saw only trouble and sorrow, but then I called on the name of the Lord: “Please, Lord, save me!”

Worship Leader: How kind and good the Lord is! So merciful, this God of ours!

Congregation: The Lord protects those like me, those of childlike faith, for I was facing death, and the Lord saved me. The Lord let my soul be at rest again, for the Lord has been good to me and has saved me from death, tears, and stumbling.

Worship Leader: So let us walk in the Lord’s presence as we live here on earth!

Congregation: Because I believe in you O Lord, I will come before you and admit that there are times when I am deeply troubled and in my anxiety I cry out to you from the depths of my soul.

Worship Leader: What can we offer the Lord for all the Lord has done for us?

Congregation: We will lift up the cup of salvation and praise the Lord’s name, we will keep our promises to the Lord in the presence of all his people.

Worship Leader: The Lord cares deeply for the loved ones who suffer, O Lord, we are your servants, your children, for you have freed us from our chains.

Congregation: We will offer you a sacrifice of thanksgiving, calling upon the name of the Lord and will fulfill our vows to the Lord in the presence of all people.  Praise the Lord!!

John 20:19-31 2nd Sunday of Easter

Let me see
(the sun shinning)
I want to feel
(the wind)
How can I know
(a babies smile)
It is you Lord
(the rain)
How can I know
(the joy of another)
You have risen
(the joy of touch)
From the dead?
(my love)
How can I know
(for you)
Love lives
(the warmth I feel when I care
For another)
That was once dead
(prayer)
I can’t know unless I see
(faith)

Opening Litany based on Psalm 16

Worship Leader: Keep me safe, O God, for I have come to you for refuge.

Congregation: We said to the LORD, “You are our Master! Every good thing we have comes from you.” The godly people in the land are our heroes and we take pleasure in them!

Worship Leader: Troubles seem to multiply for those who chase after other gods.

Congregation: We will not take part in their sacrifices or pretend to follow in their ways for the LORD alone is our inheritance, our cup of blessing.

Worship Leader: You guard all that is ours. The land you have given us is a pleasant land and a wonderful inheritance!

Congregation: We will bless the LORD who guides us; even at night our hearts instruct us to follow the ways of the Lord. Therefore we know the LORD is always with us and we will not be shaken, for the Lord is right beside us at all times.

Worship Leader: No wonder my heart is glad, and I rejoice. I rest in safety knowing the Lord walks with us and will not leave us to the powers of death.

Congregation: The Lord will show us the way of life, granting us joy of living in the presence of the Lord forever.

Matthew 28:1-10 Easter

Watching from the margins
From the dark edges of the world
As the representatives of power
Guard the rock
Not letting anything happen by chance
Lest the people
In hope
Longing for something better
In the darkness of the morning
Know hope…
The earth rattles
The stones roll
The guards freeze
And hope is born
Watching from the margins they see it
Mary and Mary
Still and silent
They see the open tomb
They see the angel appear
They see the Messiah raised
They see the future of a universe
That has never been
And can never
Return
To what was.

Mary and Mary
You and I
Don’t freeze
Don’t hold on
Don’t stand still…
Run and tell…
And the church is born
To Run and tell.

Give Thanks to the Lord (Psalm 118)

Worship Leader: Give thanks to the Lord who is good, whose love endures forever.

Congregation: Let everyone say, God’s love endures forever.

Worship Leader: Open the gates of righteousness and we will enter and give thanks to the Lord.

Congregation: They are the gates through which I may enter and give thanks for the Lord has become my salvation.

Worship Leader: I marvel when I see that which was rejected by the world, has become the foundation of humanity

Congregation: This is the day the Lord has made, let us rejoice and be glad in it.

Worship Leader: Blessed is the one who comes in the name of the Lord,

Congregation: with boughs in hand we will join the festal procession.

Worship Leader: You are our God and we give you thanks and exalt your name

Congregation: Give thanks to the Lord who is good and whose love endures forever.

Good Friday John 18:1-19:42

Who is this man

civilized people
we have our laws and order

this Jesus from Nazareth
hung up there
in pain and death

the King of Jews
with no kingdom of this world
and few to follow

who would disrupt
this life of ours
