the only thing love can do

Friday August 19, John 3: Just as Moses lifted up the snake in the desert, so the Son of Man must be lifted up, that everyone who believes in him may have eternal life. The people of Israel were being bitten by snakes and many were dying. The solution was mold a snake on a pole, hold it up and have those who were bitten look upon it and be healed. Later, Jesus used it as an image of his own crucifixion. Pain come down to earth. Jesus meets us where we are at; in the cancer ward, on the ball field, in the birthing room and on the battlefield. Jesus meets us where we are at and loves us there, walks with us there, comforts us there. The call is to look into your pain, look into your joy, look into your life where you are at and there find Jesus. Not in some far off place waiting for you to get your life together, but right where you are at. It is the only thing love can do.
