John 1:1-18 2nd Sunday after Christmas

before all time and being

before the light and darkness

was the God of creation

---- the Alpha

before all worlds

---- and Omega

once again in the timelessness of god

who for a brief moment

-------- in this place

-------- this time

Lived among us

the Word and the work of God

uniting

again and always

the Creator and the Creation

the Word and the Work

in one

the Christ

1st Sunday after Christmas Luke 2:41-52

Did you not know?

After all the praise on high

after all the promise heard

of this one

------ the Messiah?

Did you not know

the presence of God in this your son?

Do we not know

who have heard the end of the story

who have seen the salvation of God?

Do we not know

and do we relegate this the Christ

to the role of a child in our lives

to be brought forth only

when it is to our liking?

How could Mary not know after all she had heard?

How could we

and not head the call?

Come let us walk in the way of the Lord

and hear anew

all the promise given

and the Praise on High

in the new year of our lives

Opening Litany based on Psalm 148

Worship Leader: Praise the LORD from the heavens, and in the heights above.  Praise the LORD, all angels and heavenly hosts.

Congregation: Praise the LORD, sun and moon and shining stars. Praise, you highest heavens and waters above the skies.

Worship Leader: Let everyone and everything praise the name of the LORD, for the LORD spoke and they were created. The LORD set them in place for ever and ever and gave a decree that will never pass away.

Congregation: Praise the LORD from the earth, you great sea creatures and all ocean depths, lightning and hail, snow and clouds, stormy winds that do his bidding.

Worship Leader: Praise the LORD you mountains and all hills, fruit trees and all cedars, wild animals and all cattle, small creatures and flying birds.

Congregation: Praise the LORD all you kings of the earth and all nations, you princes and all rulers on earth, young men and maidens, old men and children.

Worship Leader: Let them praise the name of the LORD, for the LORD alone is exalted; and the LORD’s splendor is above the earth and the heavens.

Congregation: The LORD has raised up for all people a voice through the praise of the saints, and the people close to the heart of God. Praise the LORD.

Christmas Luke 2:1-20

Praise to the Lord on High

Who is born

Among us

A child helpless and wrapped

In the loving embrace of newness

Glory to God in the Highest

With the Praise going to all the earth

That we may rejoice

Not in greatness

---far off there

but here

---among us

The Lord God who created all

Come as one for us all

The Birth of the Christ child has come

The Birth of the Messiah

Who will lead the people

You and I

On to love

----(Victory over death)

on to life

as the one laying here

so innocent

feel the shadow of the cross

in the night

and the angels know

and sing of this one

so innocent

who will save us all

Psalm 96:1-13

Worship Leader: Sing to the LORD a new song; let all the people of the earth sing a new song unto the Lord.

Congregation: We will sing praises to the Lord and proclaim the salvation of the Lord all our days.  We will proclaim the glory of the Lord to all the nations and the Lord’s marvelous deeds to all peoples.

Worship Leader: For the Lord is great and worthy of praise above all gods.

Congregation: Our idols in this world are only that, just idols, but the Lord God created the heavens and the earth.  Splendor, Majesty and Glory surround the presence of the Lord.

Worship Leader: Let all the peoples in all the nations of the earth ascribe to the Lord the glory and honor due the name of the Lord of all creation.

Congregation: We will worship the Lord with praise and say to all people, “The Lord Reigns” For the justice of the Lord will be established over all the earth.

Worship Leader: Let the heavens rejoice, let the earth be glad, let the sea resound and all that is in it.  Let the fields be jubilant and everything in them; let all the trees of the forest sing for joy.

Congregation: Let all creation rejoice before the Lord who comes to judge the earth and all people with righteousness and loving kindness.

4th Sunday in Advent Luke 1:39-55

Blessed be Mary the Mother of God

and blessed be the fruit of thy womb

Jesus

God has done great things

and will do great things

for this one

for us

The world will be changed

from what was

to

what will be

And Justice will roll down like an ever-flowing stream

in a land parched by divisions

and hatred

us and them

war

My spirit rejoices in my Savior

who has come

that all might live

that I might be changed

from what was to what is

That I might have the strength

to fill the hungry with good things

through the one who is to come

Hail Mary, full of grace

You have brought into the world

the one who will never again

leave it

the way it was

Opening Litany based on Psalm 80:7-15

Pastor: Restore us, God Almighty; make your face shine on us, that we may be saved.

Congregation: You liberated your people from slavery in the land of the Pharaohs.  You gave them a great land and a great calling, just as you have given us a great land and a great calling.  You blessed them with abundance as you have blessed us with abundance.

Pastor: Why then O Lord have you broken down the walls so that all who pass by may pick its grapes? Why O Lord do you let the wild things and insects ravage and feed upon the abundance you have blessed us with?

Congregation: Return to us, God Almighty! Look to us from your heavenly realm and watch over this blessing you have planted, the children of God you have called your own, and help us in turn return to You as the cornerstone of our lives.

3rd Sunday in Advent Luke 3:7-18

 The Good News comes

and brings freedom

hope

but to me?

Who have I been fooling

in a world filled with the screams of hunger

in a world filled with the screams of pain

in a world

I have helped to make

----the way it is

I feel uncomfortable with your message

John!

I feel uncomfortable with the way it points

to me

I wanted only a feel good God

the Messiah who loves little children

and maybe that is why

I feel uncomfortable in this world

I helped to make

because the Messiah does

love little children

who choke on my greed!

Give me the strength to share

my two coats

----and food

and hear the Good News

of You Lord
