The Year of the Lord

Monday October 17, Isaiah 45: 5Only I am the LORD! There are no other gods. I have made you strong, though you don't know me. Cyrus did not know God as God. God used Cyrus to do God’s will. God never ceased being God. Sometimes we need to keep our eyes and ears and hearts open to what God is telling us though non-religious entities. Sometimes the religious community has it’s mind so made up about what God wants that it cannot hear what God really wants. Do you know what God wants? It can be summed up as loving the Lord with all your heart and loving your neighbor as yourself. It can be summed up the way Jesus started his ministry by reading from Isaiah and claiming his ministry is to preach good news to the poor, proclaim release to the captives, bring recovery of sight to the blind, to set at liberty those who are oppressed and to proclaim the acceptable year of the Lord. That last one meant the year of the Jubilee where there would be a great economic leveling of society. Somehow I think that has too often been overlooked by many of Jesus’ most zealous followers. Keep your ears open.
