mini-god
Wednesday
May 28th, 1 Peter 3 : 19 He went and
proclaimed God's salvation to earlier generations who ended up in the prison of
judgment because they wouldn't listen. God’s salvation is for all people, in every time and in every
place, even in the prison of their own choosing. We all succumb to the prison of judgment,
most often our own judgment pronounced upon others. It is the opposite of grace and it is the
human tendency, some may say the original sin.
It is the tendency to slip from receiving God’s grace to feeling somehow
we are in control of it, or at least have a handle on it, and those others do
not. This is just another way of saying
that what God is talking about is not grace at all, just forewarning. Just as there is a short distance from
righteousness to self-righteousness, there is a short distance from a follower
of God to being a mini-god, ruler of our own small universe (no caps). Rather than judging others, we are called to
walk with others as God walks with us. It
is the harder way to go; it is also the Godlier way to go.
