across the threshold

Sunday February 10th, Exodus 34: 29 When Moses came down from Mount Sinai with the two tablets of the Testimony in his hands, he was not aware that his face was radiant because he had spoken with the LORD. 30 When Aaron and all the Israelites saw Moses, his face was radiant, and they were afraid to come near him.  When we come into contact with the Holy, we are changed.  When we come into a relationship with the Holy, we are changed.  When we spend time with the Holy, we are changed.  This can be a bit frightening for those around us, frightening because they are scared they might also be changed, and in the process lose all the control they have worked so hard to get, which is known as original sin.  This control is an illusion of course, ask anyone who has been in an accident, been diagnosed with a life altering or terminal illness, or even tried to lose weight or quit smoking.  Control is just the illusion we share as individuals and as a society.  Giving up that control to the Holy is both that which we seek and that which we fear.  Across the threshold, on the other side of this fear, is life.
