bit more
Wednesday
February 13th, Luke 9: 18 Once when Jesus was praying
in private and his disciples were with him, he asked them, "Who do the
crowds say I am?" 19 They replied, "Some
say John the Baptist; others say Elijah; and still others, that one of the
prophets of long ago has come back to life." 20 "But
what about you?" he asked. "Who do you say I am?"
Peter answered, "The Christ of God." We sometimes use a public confession of
faith in worship, but if it is not personal to the individual saying it, it
means little. Who do “You” say that I
am? Peter was caught off guard and for a
brief moment spoke from the heart. What
came from that heart is the confession on which the church is built. Later Peter would have time to think things through,
use his own intellect and stumble, but for this moment, Peter connected with
that kernel of truth deep within ever soul.
He knew that this Jesus Was the Christ, for him personally and for the
world, and always would be. There are
times when to connect to that moment in our lives and for a brief moment
realize that this saving power of Christ has also become a reality in our lives. It is then that we begin to live it a bit
more day after day.
