swords

Thursday April 17th, Matthew 26:Then they came on him--grabbed him and roughed him up. One of those with Jesus pulled his sword and, taking a swing at the Chief Priest's servant, cut off his ear. Jesus said, "Put your sword back where it belongs. All who use swords are destroyed by swords. Don't you realize that I am able right now to call to my Father, and twelve companies--more, if I want them--of fighting angels would be here, battle-ready? But if I did that, how would the Scriptures come true that say this is the way it has to be?" How quickly we turn to the sword.  How quickly we doubt God’s power and replace God with our illusion of Power.   How quickly we justify our sword with doing God’s will, bringing freedom, democracy, hope to those poor people out there somewhere,  when in reality we all know the sword is always about our power, someone else’s death and our greed.  School shootings are met with the solution of more guns, staggering economies with more tax cuts for those who profit from war and weapons to give us the illusion of power.  Jesus brings freedom from the need to be in control and freedom for the promotion of a world in which guns and swords no longer exists.  There are no second amendment rights in heaven.
