Counting Blessings
Friday October
18th, Luke 17: They went, and while still on their way, became clean. One of them,
when he realized that he was healed, turned around and came back, shouting his
gratitude, glorifying God. He kneeled at Jesus' feet, so grateful. He couldn't
thank him enough—and he was a Samaritan. Luke likes to
use the Samaritan’s as examples of those who “get it” in order to help those
who consider themselves to be insiders in the family of God to “get it.” What Luke is trying to get them to get is
that God’s grace extends to all. Our act
of receiving this grace with gratitude opens our hearts, and our open hearts
helps us “get it.” In your prayers, how
much is “give me,” and how much is “thank you?”
Perhaps a bit more on the “thank you” side of things would open your
heart and be more helpful, not only to say it, but to live it. Go live a “thank you” life today and count
your blessings.
