triune
Sunday October 7th, Genesis 2: 18-20 God said, "It's not good for the Man to be alone; I'll make him a helper, a companion." So God formed from the dirt of the ground all the animals of the field and all the birds of the air. He brought them to the Man to see what he would name them. Whatever the Man called each living creature, that was its name. The Man named the cattle, named the birds of the air, named the wild animals; but he didn't find a suitable companion. 21-22 God put the Man into a deep sleep. As he slept he removed one of his ribs and replaced it with flesh. God then used the rib that he had taken from the Man to make Woman and presented her to the Man. We were created for relationships, and we were created in a triune relationship; created by and in the image of God who breathed in the breath of life, created as human from the humus of the earth, and created in community as the beginnings of community, procreation and relationships with one another come in the creation of the Eve (the mother of all) from this human from the humus. Each creation element is a calling from God to love and care for the God who created us, the earth from which we are formed and one another from whom humanity continues to be recreated in the image of God. The significance of the story is that the earthling from the earth was not happy as a solo entity. The animals, though nice, were not enough to fill the need for relationship. God though great, loving, kind, not to mention omniscient, is still not enough for human to experience personally and physically the joy of being in relationship. It is in getting together with one other, sharing the ups and downs, experiencing the loving embrace, and the physical nature of the relationship that humans feel love. This is not dissing God, this is accepting God's great gift of love. As a society we are still working out the fullness of what that means. We are still denying that love of God, through the physical, emotional and spiritual bond of marriage to some. All have received the gift of God’s love and the call to love one another. It matters not whether someone loves differently, what is important is that they love one another and in that there is no higher expression of God's love.
