a little sunlight

Sunday October 13th, 2 Kings 5:  2 Now bands from Aram had gone out and had taken captive a young girl from Israel, and she served Naaman's wife. 3 She said to her mistress, "If only my master would see the prophet who is in Samaria! He would cure him of his leprosy."  The young slave girl simply spoke up and told a part of her story.  She was not in a great position in life having been taken as a slave.  Who are you to speak up about God’s power; you have not even gone to seminary.  She could have spent her time and energy focused on her plight and on how slavery really wasn’t fair or just even if it is Biblical. Instead her focus is on the power and love of the God she serves.  Her response sends the heads of power into motion.  In her world she had no power that anyone could see, being a nobody, nothing but a young slave girl, and yet her voice carried wisdom and touched a seed already planted by God.  How often do we keep silent because we don’t feel we have the wisdom or power to speak or do anything?  In keeping silent, perhaps what we are succeeding in doing is keeping dormant the seeds that God has already planted in the hearts of others.  We are called to be the light of the world, light that helps those seeds sprout and grow.  We are not the ones that cause faith to grow, we simply direct it to a little sunlight and watch what happens.
