Off the horse and into the streets
Sunday February 3rd, Exodus 24: 12 The LORD said to Moses, "Come up to me on the mountain and stay here, and I will give you the tablets of stone, with the law and commands I have written for their instruction." In the Gospel for today, Jesus goes up on the mountain. God’s love for all humanity then goes down into the dusty streets of humanity. In Exodus, Moses goes up to the mountain to spend some time with God before coming down with the law, an earlier version of God’s love for all humanity. Today, modern raggin’ Pelagians want to put the Ten Commandments on the walls of the court houses, making sure everyone “knows” what they should “do” to live right. They forget the most important part, the Promise. I am the Lord Your God and you are my people. Moses brings down the law; he comes down from the clouds with this sign of the promise of God. Peter, James and John come down out of the mountains with Jesus, the sign of the promise of God fulfilled. Now it is our turn to come down out of the mountains, or at least off our high horse, and bring the good news to the streets.
