Grace is heaven in the midst of the slop
Tuesday April 21st,
1 John 3: 6 No one who lives deeply in Christ makes a practice of
sin. None of those who do practice sin have taken a good look at Christ.
They've got him all backwards. Sin is not based on a list of do’s and don’ts, it is simply
that which separates us from God. It may or may not include the Ten
Commandments but the Ten Commandments surely does not include all the ways we
manage to separate ourselves from God. When we find ourselves separated, as did
the prodigal son at the pig trough, know that God is waiting right there for
us, eyes searching the horizon waiting for some sign of return. The pig troughs
of life do not separate us from the love of God; that love is always there. It is just that all that slop makes it hard
for Us to see. The slop gets in our eyes, clouds our vision, dulls our senses, and
hampers our ability to see the beauty of God that surrounds us. Rest assured, even standing in the middle of
that slop, stinking to high heaven, God is right there with us telling us we
are loved and calling us home. It’s called grace.
