Poem based on 1st Advent Mark 13:24-31

With the tribulation upon us

And all the heavens

And earth crashing down around us

We stand

Knowing the God of love

Knowing the promises of God

That the God of Abraham and Hagar and Sarah and Keturah

Isaac and Rebekah

Jacob and Leah and Rachel and Bilhah and Zilpah and Paddan Aram

Esau and Judith

Will be our God

And we will be God’s people

Even in these times

When all we know comes crashing down

The God of creation

Will be our God

Beyond the realm of time

Tribe, class, nation

Beyond all the limitations that seem so real

Only to us
