washing
Friday
January 17th, Matthew 3: 15 Jesus replied,
"Let it be so now; it is proper for us to do this to fulfill all
righteousness." Then John consented. For Matthew it is important to show that Jesus fulfills all
righteousness. Matthew casts Jesus as
the new Moses who brings the new law to the people and frees them once again
from all that enslaves them. As the
children of God we fulfill all righteousness simple by being a child of
God. For what shines through is not
ourselves, but God’s righteousness. Let
the memory of your baptism be a memory of washing away all that stands in the
way of letting the light of Christ shine through.
