oil and flour

Monday November 12th, 1 Kings 17: 15 She went away and did as Elijah had told her. So there was food every day for Elijah and for the woman and her family. 16 For the jar of flour was not used up and the jug of oil did not run dry, in keeping with the word of the LORD spoken by Elijah. In remembering the other, we remember the Lord who made them our brothers and sisters.  When we run away from the calling of God to care for the least, lost and lonely and focus on only taking care of ourselves, the one who is left behind, contrary to popular books, is Christ himself.  When we are giving and grace-filled followers of Christ, we become something more than just ourselves with a small “o,” in giving we become a “We” with a capitol “W.”  It is in the We that we find the presence of Christ through the ministry of others.  And as the oil and flour were not used up, so too in our giving we find the compassion of Christ is not used up.  Instead, it is enhanced and the world is a better place, closer to the heart of God.
