fast facts

Friday November 13th, Mark 12: 41Jesus sat down opposite the place where the offerings were put and watched the crowd putting their money into the temple treasury. Many rich people threw in large amounts. 42But a poor widow came and put in two very small copper coins,a]"> worth only a fraction of a penny. Jesus was not a fan of “the Lives of the Rich and Famous”. He knew all too well the cost exacted on society for such as this. The ELCA fast facts for 11.2.09 tells the story, “Child poverty is more widespread in the United States than in any other industrialized country; at the same time, the U.S. government spends less than any industrialized country to pull its children out of poverty.” In order for some to have a lot, others must have a little. Jesus was concerned for the least, lost and lonely. It is the church’s call to do the same.
