mud
6th Sunday of Easter
John 14:23-29
She ran in the door smiling
covered with mud
in little splotches here and there
with a smile of love
plastered amid the streaks of dirt
just smiling
and that was enough
it said love
with no agendas
---- strings
-------- ifs
it just said love
and that was enough for the whole world
in that moment
just love
Christ’s Spirit is here
to guide us
---- love
to gently nudge this way and that
---- love
so that as we stand before God
amid our smudged and streaked hands
and faces
the God and Creator of all
sees only the smile
---- love
of Christ

Dan:
A beautiful and power poem that embraces the other posts surrounding this Sunday (Easter 6). We focus on the appropriateness, the rightness of
who and what we are, and what we say and believe--especially in reference to what others are, think, say, etc.
We ignore the mud, or do our best to wipe it off, or point out either that, "They made me do it!" or that, "They're muddier than me!" God, on the other hand, seem to be mostly interested in the "us" beneath it all. Sure, we will need to be washed soon enough, but for now, we can revel in the love and the laughter of God that celebrates who we are: muddy Adams (lit., "from the earth person") all.
