Tell me about the God you don't believe in

Friday February 1st, Matthew 4: 18 As Jesus was walking beside the Sea of Galilee, he saw two brothers, Simon called Peter and his brother Andrew. They were casting a net into the lake, for they were fishermen. 19 "Come, follow me," Jesus said, "and I will make you fishers of men." 20 At once they left their nets and followed him. Jesus calls some away, those who are to follow into a different calling. There were many who were not called out from what they were doing. There are many who are called to continue our fishing, or business or public service and to be a follower of Christ in that place. Called to change lives in that place. Called to announce the nearness of the Kingdom in that place. How, and where is Christ calling you? Who are the eager ears and yearning hearts that are soooo tired of hearing of the wrath of God and the self-righteousness of God’s followers more than the grace of God? Today, most in our world have heard of Christ, that is not so much the issue as countering fundamentalists packaging the message has come in. William Sloane Coffin, when confronted in conversations about a non-belief in God, would ask the person to describe that God they don’t believe in. Most often he was able to tell them that he didn’t believe in that god either, then, sometimes, they were ready for a word of grace.
