Opening Litany for Narrative Lectionary, 1st John.
Worship
Leader: That which
was from the beginning, which we have heard, which we have seen with our
eyes, which we have looked at and our hands have
touched—
Congregation:
this we proclaim concerning the Word of life. The life appeared; we have seen it and testify to it, and we proclaim to you the eternal life, which was with the Father and has appeared to us.
Worship Leader: If we claim to be without sin, we deceive ourselves and the truth is not in us.
Congregation:
If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness.
Worship
Leader: Anyone who
claims to be in the light but hates a brother or sister is still in the darkness.
Congregation:
Anyone who loves their brother and sister lives in the light, and there is nothing in them to make them
stumble.
Worship
Leader: For this is the message you heard from the beginning: We should love one another.
Congregation:
Dear friends, let us love one another, for love comes from God. Everyone who loves has
been born of God and knows God. Whoever does not love does not know God, because
God is love.
Worship
Leader: This is how we know that we love the children of God:
Congregation:
by loving
God and carrying out his commands.
